Distribution of Anthopleura sola in British Columbia in British Columbia

Introduction

The Starburst Anemone is found on rocky shores along the Pacific Coast (Eastern North Pacific). It was previously considered a solitary form of the clonal Anthopleura elegantissima but was recognized as a different species by Pearse and Francis (2000). Pearse and Francis note that "This species does not divide and instead grows into larger, isolated individuals that have more often been confused with specimens of the Giant Green Anemone, A. xanthogrammica."
